Alverton
I like where I live because:
- Central Location
- It is close to town and the area is great. Sports involving the ocean are close by and generally not over populated
- Quiet Street, nice neighbourhood except for school access and parking by people working in town
- Excellent public library, good yoga centre
- It is near the town centre and all amenities. Also there are trees and grass verges which make for an attractive environment
- Nice neighbours, quiet area, access to town
- It meets all our requirements
- It is quiet, no traffic. 20 minute flat (no hills) walk into town. Lots of trees nearby. Nice garden space
- Close to town centre, peaceful street – no vandalism, good neighbours, close to Penzance leisure centre
- Close to town (walking) parking no problem, quiet street
- Convenient for town centre, great views
- There are shops, plenty of open spaces, also I am on a good bus route
- I built it
- Good neighbours, very quiet location, fantastic sea views
- We chose our property because of its location, the fact that we can park our car on our drive and proximity to town which is accessible by car or bus
- I have lived in this house for 45 years. I know most of my neighbours. We look out for each other, and respect each other
- The houses are well spaced out, and there is plenty of green land/trees around and I am surrounded by likeable neighbours
- The residents look after their properties and gardens. They respect the area and neighbours (on the whole)
- I’m far enough out of town not to be troubled by traffic or late night revellers, but still able to walk into town or take the regular bus if I wish
- Nice view. Why not alter the Jubilee pool into a marina, we might earn some money instead of throwing it away on a place hardly ever used
- Am close to all the things that are important to us
- My place of birth and after completing 38 years in the armed forces its good to come home
- My home is away from main town yet close enough. I have green space around me, which I hope will remain. It is a fairly quiet, well kept area in general.
- Community spirit, access
- I chose it
- Quiet, good neighbours, clean neighbourhood
- Because I have very good neighbours and a lovely quiet area
- It’s quiet and a 20 minute walk into town. Good neighbours
- It’s walking distance of all amenities
- I know my neighbours, its quiet (mostly) I like the sense of community, love the leafy feel of the estate
- The area is well kept and close to amenities, only thing missing is a post office
- A bungalow, near town and on bus route
- It is a pleasant quiet area and the neighbours are friendly
- Over the years the whole area has remained much the same but is now changing
- Walking distance to town and sea front and country. Nice neighbours
- It’s quiet
- It feels safe, most neighbours are nice, it is convenient for most things, excluding a post office. Unfortunately no kids play area for grandchildren
- Very quiet neighbours
- Semi rural, on the flat for easy walking
- It is convenient, no big hills on routes to shops etc., near Doctor, quiet area
- It’s quiet
- It’s quiet, attractive to older people and good access to all facilities
- Easy walking distance of the whole town. Quite peaceful. Is a bungalow so can stay when old. Can walk home if been for a drink.
- It’s very convenient for all facilities
- A nice convenient area on the level with a parking area for our property
- It’s quiet and open
- We live in a great area, with ample parking and green space outside. It is quiet and safe for my children and still close to amenities
I don’t like where I live because:
- Local town is getting “run down” and untidy. Not enough done to encourage big aquatic sports events.
- Too many cars parked that are not residents vehicles. Too far to walk to amenities for elderly/disabled. No snow/ice gritting – disastrous on hill!!
- Too much dog poo in the lane we use to cut down to the main road
- Nothing
- Very remote
- Recent planning approval has allowed alterations to properties which have been to the detriment of the overall look of the road. The council should also be vigilant about the misuse of residential areas being used for commerce
- Limited parking at school times
- Narrow road for a bus route
- Occasional noisy traffic which cuts through
- Old trees need managing
- Lack of lighting to my flat and lack of natural light due to the overgrown trees next to my flat
- It’s near the main road. Huge trees in front of house blocking light
- Very nice quiet area, the local children are extremely polite and friendly
- Too many driving schools using our roads to practise. We have no lift (a lot of older people live in my flats) Too many cars parked up and not enough buses.
- More and more of the area is now turning into a poorer site
- Cars drive around estate too fast for kids to be able to play outside
- Grass cutting not done often enough. No post office near. One neighbours runs a lawn mowing service from home and starts up machines at all times of day and evening.
- We are prisoners in our own home, been subjected to physical attack and verbal abuse.
- Cars using Alexandra road mostly drive too fast
- The town is being built on all around. An allotment at the rear of my house has planning permission. 3 properties have had extensions in the 2 years I have been here.
- Noisy sea gulls due to neighbours feeding them
- Access from Lansdowne Road. Dangerous because of parked cars to the right obscuring views. At least 6 accidents in as many years.
What would you most like to change about where you live:
- Sports and social events which encourage tourists to visit instead of going to Padstow or Newquay. Small breakwater that doesn’t ruin surf at Marazion!!!!
- Better transport. More concern for vandalism and cowboy sales/businesses. Preservation of trees. “green” plan for town. Closer amenities and better parking for disabled/elderly (not at such huge cost). NB: No comments or questions on A) Safety B) Access for elderly and disabled C) Conservation issues D) New housing development or land uses E) Urban Design F) Green emphasis on all developments. These are all critical issues
- Harbour facilities improved for visitors to town, Promenade to be developed, better cinema, refurbished “Acorn” theatre
- I am hoping that the tree lopping programme extends to our locality. The tree outside our house/garden hasn’t been lopped for nearly 40 years and its spoiling our garden with its shadow
- A bus service which goes around Tredarvah Road 2 or 3 times daily
- Send the dog owners (who do not clean up after their dogs) to prison
- See 5, and be younger (55 years would do) 1) more visible policing of area 2) more road/pavement maintenance 3) more road/pavement up-keep
- Removal of weeds and grass from footpaths and roads. Removal of safety barrier and tree stump in Kings Road. Removal/reduction in car parking fees
- Nothing
- Nothing
- Nothing
- For the bus to stop at the end of the close
- A clamp down on parking on pavements, continuation of affordable parking in Penzance, or a provision of a park and ride. More commercial use of PZ Promenade, a much neglected asset. Increased provision of public toilets (not less as is now the case)
- More counselling for youth in schools and locally, more free activities for troubled youth
- The school to use the car park instead of snarling up the road twice a day
- Utilising the grass verges to allow more parking spaces for residents. During school times the residents cannot park. I am disabled and need to be able to park close by
- Nothing at present
- Cut the trees down they are big now and then the road could be widened
- Nothing
- Buy the house and next door
- To continue all the good advantages of the area
- See above, Paths kept clear
- A coat of paint on the outside. 5.5 years and no outside painting has ever been done
- More parking please
- Help with keeping the outside of my flat clean and tidy (clean the gutters regular and clean the painted walls) more parking areas for the residents
- The trees in front of our houses tidied up or taken down
- Parking
- A lift in our flats, more parking spaces, more than only 2 buses on the estate per day, no more houses built on every spare bit of green land.
- Play area for children and re introduce post office
- A restriction on smoking in the lower flats or maisonettes, because the fumes cause ill-health and distress for the residents of the flat above
- Safer for kids to play (play area)
- 1, Re-instate post office, 2, get rid of noisy neighbour, 3, more police presence at times
- Fining people who do not pick up after their dog
- To move.
- Speed bumps, litter bins.
- Nothing
- There needs to be a proper housing plan for the whole of Penzance. I.e. private and public premises. Then a look at the future needs and then a plan i.e. how many each type and size do we require. All I see at the moment is extension after extension. Where are the 1 bed and 2 bed houses that we are supposed to be having for down sizing, as we are making them all bigger (bedroom tax). People should move to get bigger houses. Housing stock should remain and be available.
- Warn towns people they will be prosecuted if seen to be doing the above
- Repairs to roads
- People respecting the dog fouling laws
